Retiring Staff

This is the time of year that we have staff notify the district of their intent to retire. This year, we are losing some really good, seasoned teachers—Lynette Burdick, Mella Bradshaw, Carol Mora, Kileen Smith, and Janet Wengert. These five teachers have around 130 years of teaching experience combined and have been a great benefit to our district. They will be missed!

SJMS Spelling Bee

The SJMS Spelling Bee is always a highlight of the start of the new semester. The middle school staff does a great job of making this a big event each year. This year, Jarom Tryon took 1st place, with Silas Udall finishing 2nd, and Avery Lee finishing 3rd. We are proud of them and their hard work.

Projects

We have a number of projects that have been completed or are upcoming.

Þ    Our Mutualink software is almost ready for launch. This system will provide immediate communication between all schools and law enforcement, utilizing our cameras, in the case of an emergency. This system provides a level of security that our district has never had.

Þ    All the curtains in the auditorium have been replaced. The new curtains are a welcome addition.

Þ    The wall mats for the wrestling room should be ready for install soon.

Þ    The sound panels for the SJMS main gym are scheduled to be installed within the month.

Þ    The respray of the track is scheduled for Spring Break.

Þ    The install of the new carpet for the middle school is scheduled for mid-Summer.

Other Happenings

Þ    The Spring sport season is underway, with the Winter sport season concluding at the end of February. Our HS wrestling team won sectionals, our HS girls basketball team lost in the 2nd round of State, and our boys’ basketball team was knocked out in the region tournament. Our 7th grade girls’ basketball team went undefeated!

Þ    The Spring Musical was a huge success. We are grateful for those who made this year’s production so fun to be a part of and to watch.

Þ    State testing begins this month (March). We are proud of the effort that our students, teachers, and staff have put in throughout the year. We are fortunate to have amazing people work in the district.

It has been a great quarter, and we hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Spring Break!
