All schools and bus routes will be on a two-hour delay this morning.

Dear St. Johns High School Community,
I recently found a note on my desk that said, “Accept what you can’t change. Change what you can’t accept.”
As principal at SJHS, I have truly enjoyed the students, the people that I work with, the challenges that this job presents, the personal growth, and the lessons that I have learned.
As time has gone on and as I’ve dedicated myself to this job, I’ve felt a growing distance from my family and my priorities and focus have shifted, which is something that I cannot accept. The combination of this challenging job, my responsibilities in areas of service in my church, other community service efforts, and most importantly, my responsibilities as a husband and father, have resulted in being unhappy and regrettably less present mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually for my family. It should not be so that my family gets the last of me, rather than the best of me. I talk often about focusing on what matters most and now it is time that I lived that principle.
After much contemplation, struggle, and prayer, I’ve realized that the best decision for me and my family is to step away from my position as High School Principal at the end of this current school year. For the remainder of this school year, I am committed to living Redskin Culture (to show up, give maximum effort, be respectful to all, and get involved).
For 2.5 years I have been striving for every other solution besides leaving a job that I love and students that I will miss greatly. Although I won't be in this role, I remain committed to our youth and our community. We are not moving, but will seek to contribute to the community in a variety of other ways.
I write this letter to thank all of you for your support, kindness, and collaboration. Mostly, thank you to the students I have been fortunate enough to get to know in this position. I am sorry about this decision, but I plead for your understanding. I will miss you students the most!
Sincerely,
Mr. Palmer
