Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for all your support over the past two years in creating the College and Career Center at St Johns High School. We know that making an appointment to see the school counselor can be difficult at times due to busy schedules and school involvement.
In an effort to expedite the process whether it be to make a schedule change or wellness check, we have created a SIMPLIFIED system
PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THE ATTACHED FLYER, THAT WILL BE POSTED AROUND CAMPUS, ON THE OUR WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA.
YOU WILL FIND A BARCODE TO SCAN THAT WILL TAKE YOU TO A CALENDAR TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT.
Thank you
Rick Johnson
Academic Counselor SJHS

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to care for and educate your children. We take that responsibility seriously and work diligently to provide them with the highest level of education. While we are vested in your child's academic success, we are also concerned about their personal well-being. This message is being sent to let you know about a mental health resource we have had available at St. Johns High School for several years, but that may be new to you. Substitutes keep the learning going and we are so thankful for ours! #nationalsubstituteday

Mr. Jones' Autos I class has been learning the basics of disc and drum braking systems, rotors, oil changes, and tires and wheels.
Today, students were working in five different stations.
1. Mr. Jones instructs students in cleaning up a rotor, so the brakes will work better.
2. Mr. Jones shows students how to move a vehicle up and down on the lift, so they can change the brake pads.
3. Students organize the autoshop tools, cleaning them as needed, and finding those that need replacement.
4. Students use a machine to balance a tire, by adding weights to the rims, so there isn't any wobbling while driving.
5. Students practice taking a tire off a rim, checking it for any needed repairs, and putting it back on the rim.

Mrs. Johnson's ceramic students practice the art concept of positive and negative space, as they create luminaries.
Students first created a slab cylinder, then designed their pattern template, which they will carve into their cylinder once it dries to "leather" state.
The term "leather-hard" refers to the state of clay that has dried slightly but is not yet fully dry, where the design will hold shape and is still workable.
Once the school's kiln installation is complete, the pieces will be bisque-fired and then glaze-fired to create a finished piece.

Mrs. Brown's Biology students learn about the process of photosynthesis by doing a human replay, where they separated the hydrogen ions from water molecules, transported sunshine through an electron transport chain, used this energy to create ATP and NADPH, and completed the Calvin Cycle!
Using kinesthetic movement and fun, hands-on activities, students are better able to understand complex scientific processes!
